Since we started Chesapeake’s Kids, we have been constantly amazed at the generosity of the people of Chesapeake. However, recently, we have been made aware of two angels working on our behalf all the way up in Northern Virginia!
Tracy and Kellie Rice live in Warrenton, Virginia. After hearing of Chesapeake’s Kids from a friend in Chesapeake, this mother-daughter duo mobilized a book drive like none we’ve seen before. Tracy and Kellie made drop-off boxes and flyers with information about Chesapeake’s Kids and placed them in strategic locations in Fauquier County. They contacted friends, neighbors, scout groups, classmates and co-workers to let them know about the book collection. With the help of Kellie’s brother Cole, they collected the donated books, cleaned and labeled them and sent them to us in neat boxes, ready for our next book distribution.
Because of their hard work and the generosity of the citizens of Fauquier County, Tracy and Kellie have collected over 1,000 books for Chesapeake’s Kids. These beautiful books will be distributed in upcoming book fairs, including our next fair at Carver Intermediate School. Principal Angela Isbell has already expressed her joy and excitement at being picked as the next school to receive a free book fair. Because of people like the Rice family, we will be able to provide the gift of book ownership to the great students of Carver Intermediate!
Thank you Kellie and Tracy, not only for the fabulous books you collected and donated to our children, but for inspiring all of us to continue to spread the word about Chesapeake’s Kids. You never know when someone with a heart for others might be listening.
NOTE: Since we first published this story, Kellie has continued to work diligently for Chesapeake’s Kids. She and her family now collected over 3,500 books for our Reading Project. We were delighted to meet Kellie and her mother when they attended a book fair and helped children choose books from among those they had collected. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to Kellie and Tracy and the amazing citizens of Faquier County!
