About Chesapeake’s Kids

Chesapeake’s Kids came about when a small group of people recognized the need of children in the city of Chesapeake.  A mutal friend was acting as a long-term substitute in one our Title 1 schools.  She asked for donations from friends so that every child in her fifth grade class would be able to attend a school book fair and purchase a book.  The response was overwhelming and on book fair day, every child in her class was able to purchase two books of their very own.  For nine of the children in her class, it was the first book they had ever been able to purchase.  From this small act of kindness, the inspiration for “Chesapeake’s Kids” was born.

The mission of Chesapeake’s Kids is to foster a sharing of resources in order to enrich the lives of underprivileged children in Chesapeake.  It is our belief that by assisting these children, we are investing in their futures and the future of Chesapeake itself.

Chesapeake’s Kids seeks donations of specific items for their current projects.  These items are then distributed to disadvantaged children in this community in order to make a positive impact upon their lives. While many charitable organizations focus on a specific need or group, Chesapeake’s Kids strives to choose a variety of projects that can enrich the lives of many different underserved children with different talents and needs.

By harnessing the enthusiasm, the desire for community involvement, and the innate sense of responsibility of the citizens of Chesapeake, we are able to fulfil needs and effect positive in the lives of many. Through our efforts, we hope to enrich the lives of both donors and recipients by providing a way for those who care about children to help those in need in our own community.

We are inspired by the words of John Wesley:

“Do all the good you can. By all the means you can. In all the ways you can. In all the places you can. At all the times you can. To all the people you can. As long as ever you can.”

As of September 30, 2014, Chesapeake’s Kids is now part of the Chesapeake Youth Foundation.  Through this alliance, your donations to Chesapeake’s Kids are now tax deductible.
